In the Coast Guard

  • The Coast Guard is searching for an 18-year-old man who is believed to have gone overboard from a cruise ship off of Tampa.

    Story here.

  • There is going to be a new cutter escorting Trident nuclear submarines as they arrive and depart the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base. The 87-foot CGC Sea Dog is the 73rd Marine Protector Class and it will be working with the Sea Dragon to protect the submarines as they transit.

  • Sadly, the search for a 19-year-old man who disappeared while swimming in the Atlantic Ocean off of Carolina Beach, NC was suspended yesterday.

    Story here

Sunday when the young man went missing lifeguards had put out signs along the beach warning swimmers not to get in the water, especially during low tide, because of rip currents.

The decision to suspend a search really is one of the hardest for a command, and no matter how much work and effort goes into the search having to give that order to suspend never gets any easier. That choice is never made lightly. My thoughts are with the young man’s family.
