  • Welcome home to Coast Guard Port Security Unit 311! After providing shore-side and marine security in Kuwait for seven months, the Guardians returned to San Pedro, California.

  • A bad day got even worse for this boat operator when he was detained for boating under the influence after hitting the breakwall near Arcadia, Michigan. There are more twists and turns in the story, but thankfully Coast Guard crewmembers from Station Frankfort were able to safely rescue all five people onboard. The operator, however, had to go visit with the local police and may face severe penalties.

  • Going swimming this weekend at the beach or in a river? It is suggested that you do some research and ask questions to find out about the water conditions and heed the warnings of authorities. Beachgoers may not notice tidal changes and winds, but they both greatly affect water conditions. It may be a hot, sunny day on land but the cold, swift undercurrent in the water can quickly overcome a swimmer.
