What is a Coast Guard “Ancient”?

Recently, the Compass posted a story or two about the Coast Guard’s “Ancients.” As part of our 219th birthday celebration last week, we talked with the Ancient Keeper, Chief Warrant Officer Thomas Guthlein, and the Silver Ancient Albatross, Senior Chief Peter Macdougall. They answered questions about their role as an “Ancient” and what the title means to them.

While you watch the videos check out their fancy garb, which is part of the tradition of being an “Ancient.”
