  • Coast Guard Cutter Petrel interdicted a boat carrying 11 suspected illegal Mexican immigrants about five miles off the coast of California yesterday. The overloaded 20-foot boat was about a mile-and-a-half into U.S. waters when it was intercepted. The cutter detained the boat and its passengers until transferring them to Customs and Border Protection. Click here for pictures of the interdiction.

  • Saturday, Coast Guard Cutters Venturous and Kodiak Island along with several vessels from the Dominican Republic Navy concluded a seven-day joint maritime law enforcement operation off the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic. The countries worked together to combat international maritime trafficking of contraband while also improving joint operations.

  • A man drowned yesterday afternoon after he reportedly went into the water off the Rockland Breakwater to retrieve the tip of his fishing pole. The Coast Guard along with local Rockland officials conducted a search; however, the body was recovered by a Rockland diver.

  • A kayak carrying two men capsized about 2 a.m. Sunday off Long Island Sound. One of the men was able to swim to a nearby anchored sailboat and call 911, but the other man is missing. Coast Guard along with several local agencies continued the search today.
