After an engine fire suddenly broke out on a 32-foot boat last Saturday shooting flames in the air and severely burning the boat’s skipper, the two men onboard managed to get into a life raft and row away from the boat. Luckily, a Coast Guard helicopter just happened to be at the right place at the right time and saw the smoke coming from the boat. The routine training mission turned into a dramatic rescue as the rescue swimmer quickly deployed and hoisted the badly burned skipper. As the helicopter took the man to the hospital, a Coast Guard small boat launched and retrieved the rescue swimmer and the second passenger. Amazing.
