Ten boys battling cancer were treated to a day out and a trip on the Coast Guard Cutter George Cobb yesterday. Guradians in the San Francisco area joined with the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital to plan a day where the boys could leave the hospital to enjoy Fleet Week activities including a stretch Hummer limousine ride to the Coast Guard base paid for by local charity 19 For Life. Late last night, Guardians were called to help search for a possible downed aircraft off the southern tip of Florida with three people on board. Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders received a call from an air-traffic controller in Miami reporting that a single-engine aircraft was descending rapidly and may have crashed in the water. When a vehicle is found disabled without a driver before dawn yesterday morning on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, the Coast Guard and several local officials launched a search for the vehicle’s owner. Story here
