  • Yesterday, we mentioned the search effort to locate a possible downed aircraft. The case ended well when Guardians from Station Marathon located the three passengers clinging to a lobster trap buoy yesterday. More than 100 Coast Guard and partner agency personnel were involved in the 2,200 square mile, two-day search.

  • When the Coast Guard District Eight command center in New Orleans received an EPIRB alert for the boat Missin’ Link late last night, the watchstanders immediately organized a joint search effort to locate the boat. Guardians located a life raft in the vicinity of the EPIRB alert, which was about 130 miles southeast of Galveston. Good Samaritans in the area diverted to assist and where able to locate and safely rescue the seven people who were on the Missin’ Link when it capsized and sank.
