When the Coast Guard District Eight command center in New Orleans received an EPIRB alert for the boat Missin’ Link late last night, the watchstanders immediately organized a joint search effort to locate the boat. Guardians located a life raft in the vicinity of the EPIRB alert, which was about 130 miles southeast of Galveston. Good Samaritans in the area diverted to assist and where able to locate and safely rescue the seven people who were on the Missin’ Link when it capsized and sank. Story here
A helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City medically evacuated a man off a 78-foot fishing boat about 40 miles off the coast of Cape May Friday evening. The man reportedly fell and hit his head and needed medical attention. Story here
