- Guardians are currently responding to and investigating the cause of a collision between a Liberian-flagged tank ship and an offshore supply vessel 40 miles off the coast of Galveston, Texas. The collision reportedly resulted in an 18,000 gallon oil spill as the tanker sustained damage to a fuel tank. The leak has been contained and no injuries were reported from either vessel.
- Guardians protecting the coasts of the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway System are at full optempo as Operation Fall Retrieve gets underway. Over the next two months, 1,284 navigational aids – including lighted and unlighted buoys and beacons, will be pulled from the water to minimize damage from the harsh northern winter.
- Guardians provided pumps to a sinking Texas fishing vessel and an EMT for its injured captain. The vessel made it safely to port thanks to the quick response to her distress call by a helicopter from Air Station Houston and a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Station Galveston.
- Coast Guard Auxiliarists‘ play a critical role in search and rescue operations and serve on the front lines of boating safety from coast to coast. One Florida television station decided to get to know these often misunderstood and under-appreciated volunteer Guardians.
