  • As the southeast braces for Tropical Storm Ida, the Coast Guard has closed ports from Mississippi to Florida. By establishing Port Condition Zulu, Guardians have closed ports to all vessel traffic and have begun positioning personnel aircraft and vessels to respond to the storm.   • Guardians rescued two men trapped on an oil rig 80-miles south of New Orleans. A helicopter deployed by Air Station New Orleans hoisted the men from the rig after heavy winds ahead of Tropical Storm Ida threatened the integrity of the platform. Click here for video.

  • A 56-year-old woman suffering from abdominal pain was medevaced from a cruise ship 170 miles off the coast of San Diego on Monday. Sector San Diego launched a helicopter to make the pickup and transport the woman to a local hospital.

  • On Veterans Day, the Commandant and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard will be joined by DHS Secretary Napolitano for the annual wreath laying ceremony honoring former Guardians at the Coast Guard Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery.
