The pictures for this year’s Coast Guard Photo Contest are in and the results are impressive!
Everyday, Guardians around the world capture remarkable photographs of the Coast Guard in action. From homeland security patrols to routine training missions and arctic operations, Coast Guard men and women are there, witnessing and capturing the work of America’s Guardian. The Coast Guard Photo Contest is an opportunity to recognize these shutterbugs throughout the Coast Guard for their outstanding talent and captivating photographic skills.
With over 700 images submitted for this year’s contest and only four chosen as overall winners, many of these photos will not get the recognition they deserve.
That’s where you come in.
While the “official” judges spend the next couple of months huddled over light boxes, we’re going to ask you, the people, to help us determine the “People’s Choice” for best Coast Guard Photo of the Year.
Below is the first set of photos for your consideration…
Tune in every Wednesday over the next couple of months to see more photos and stay tuned to the Compass blog for details on registering your vote for the People’s Choice Award in early March.

UPDATE: Here are links to the other sets of photos eligible for the People’s Choice award.

I love all the pictures posted. Keep up all the good work all the men and women of the USCG… Have a daughter and son-in-law both stationed in Ancorhage Ak….
These are certainly “wow” moments during a day in the life of a Guardian. Thanks for sharing and posting!
With so many superb photographs to choose from, this is not going to be easy … but I am looking forward to seeing them. Thanks for the opportunity!
As a helicopter pilot, I cannot imagine the level of courage it takes to purposely fly an aircraft into the heart of a storm like so many of the USCG do every day.
