
Yesterday, Admiral Thad Allen, Commandant of the Coast Guard, delivered a keynote speech to the Surface Naval Association on the occasion of The theme for this year’s event was “Surface Navy: A Balanced Force for the Hybrid War”.
During his remarks, Admiral Allen highlighted the need to operationalize the Cooperative Strategy for 21st Century Seapower with our Navy and Marine Corps partners; develop adequate maritime security regimes to deal with hybrid threats like small vessel security, increased human activity in the Arctic, and maritime terrorism. The Commandant also outlined some of the current challenges facing the Coast Guard including operating as the entire federal government faces a constrained budget environment while maintaining top priorities including recapitalizing the service’s aging fleet while managing operational risks across the entire mission spectrum.
