This afternoon, Coast Guard Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) in Jacksonville is having a private pre-screening of the Military Channel’s “Modern Sniper – Coast Guard.” The episode will explore the role of the HITRON and their mission to stop the flow of illegal drugs into America. The episode will air nationally Thursday, Feb. 25, at 9 PM ET on the Military Channel.
As summarized in the HITRON’s motto “Force From Above,” the specialized unit is trained to forward deploy armed helicopters to high threat drug trafficking and high risk security areas. In support of the Coast Guard’s maritime security drug interdiction mission, the armed helicopters intercept suspect targets underway, employ the appropriate use of force to interdict vessels, and vector Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection and other partner agency’s boats to the scene for apprehension. The HITRON also supports homeland security missions by providing Airborne Use of Force qualified crew and aircraft during assigned security operations.
