The Air Pirates are a crew of about a half-dozen airplane salvage experts who have recovered dozens of aircraft, many of them World War II-era war-birds, all over the globe. They were contracted by the Coast Guard to help locate the missing Coast Guard crew in Greenland. In the video linked to the image on the right, Rafid Tuma, one of the Air Pirates that went on the Coast Guard expedition to Greenland, describes who the Air Pirates are, how they came to be, and what they do. While Tuma couldn’t share all of their stories you can watch the Air Pirates in action in the History Channel’s Mega Movers episode B-25 Bomber. Someday you might even see them on the silver screen— the movie rights to the Air Pirates story were sold to Steven Spielberg by the group’s founder, Gary Larkins.
