Today Coast Guard leadership and many noteworthy speakers will be gathering for the 2010 Coast Guard Diversity Summit and it promises to be an inspiring event.  The theme is “total workforce commitment to diversity leadership” but that really doesn’t do it justice.

After guests register and take in the exhibits this afternoon the evening reception boasts some wonderful performances to get things going.  A diversity of live music, dance and song will set the tone for what is billed as a “world-class event.”

“Our event focus is a bit non-traditional,” according to Admiral Thad Allen.  “We will address ‘diversity’ issues that affect us as an organization and as a partner in the international maritime operating environment.”

Part of tomorrow’s panel discussion are Ambassadors Houda Nonoo of Bahrain and Raymond Alcide Joseph of Haiti who should should be especially interesting.

In addition to the many speakers participants can look forward to more music, interactive training sessions and lots of thoughtful discussion.

We’ll be covering the event from start to finish so stay tuned for updates through Thursday.  You can follow our posts in this series with this tag.
