Personnel from Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach had what to the rest of us would be a rare brush with celebrity over the weekend. Honored on stage for their service, the Coasties also had the opportunity to hang with celebrities like Ben Affleck and The Rock backstage during the Spike TV Guys Choice Awards.

“Surprisingly, the Coast Guard has the chance to interact with celebrities in this area on a fairly regular basis,” said LT Anastacia Thorsson, public affairs officer for Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach and contributor to the Compass. “It is always a lot of fun, and pretty humbling to have the people you see on the big screen treating you like a star. They are really supportive of the Coast Guard’s men and women.”

The award show, which airs June 20th on Spike TV will feature Coasties (and other armed services personnel) sharing the stage with the likes of Robert Downey, Jr. and Sandra Bullock as the awards are given out and America’s heroes receive their due from the crowd.
