This past weekend, 20 Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles got a lift home with the help of a dedicated team of scientists and Coast Guardsmen.
“After a few months of record sea turtle strandings in Massachusetts and countless hours caring for these animals, we were rescued yesterday by the United States Coast Guard. After a special request for help, the U.S. Coast Guard agreed to help in this unprecedented stranding event.” – Connie Merigo, New England Aquarium
The New England Aquarium and its dedicated volunteers have spent the past few weeks rehabilitating the Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles. After meticulous treatment and therapy from the volunteers, they were ready to be transported to their new home at SeaWorld in Orlando, Fla., with a little help from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile.
