Chief Petty Officer Ferro, an explosives detection canine, served in the Coast Guard for nine years alongside his handler Petty Officer 1st Class Shane Coleman. In a ceremony held June 10, 2013, at Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team Galveston, Texas, Ferro was formally retired into a life of rest and relaxation.
