Since 1790 the Coast Guard has safeguarded our nation’s maritime interests, providing a 24/7 presence along America’s rivers, ports, coastline and on the high seas. But while the Coast Guard’s presence and impact is regional, national and international, our operations are often out of sight.
From July 29 to Aug. 4, 2013, we captured a week in the life of the service to highlight the missions performed by America’s Coast Guard. From the silent reverence of a unit observing morning colors to a daring rescue mission to save an F-16 pilot, you’ll get a glimpse of just how much the Coast Guard does as we feature a day-by-day snapshot.
We’ve reached the last day in our Week in the Life of the Coast Guard series. Earlier today we featured the Coast Guard newest recruits and to finish out the series we’re sharing a glimpse into the training of the service’s future officers at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Be sure to see all the moments captured at the academy in the Flickr slideshow below. If you missed any days or want to re-live some moments, check out the entire Week in the Life of the Coast Guard series. Semper Paratus!
