The following message was sent to all Department of Homeland Security personnel by Acting Secretary Rand Beers.
This week our nation celebrates Thanksgiving, a time for all of us to recognize the blessings we have experienced over the past year. As we come together to celebrate this important holiday – as individuals, as families and as a Department – I want to personally thank each of you for your service, your dedication and your commitment to the Department and to our Nation.
Every day you are central to carrying out our important mission to protect the homeland. This past year we have faced serious threats, confronted damaging natural disasters and dealt with the tragic loss of DHS colleagues killed in the line of duty. Let us remember those colleagues and their families by honoring their memories and remaining steadfast in our commitment to the hard work our Department does day in and day out.
I especially want to thank our DHS employees who will be working this Thanksgiving holiday, for example those helping Americans across the country safely reach their destinations. Your service is very much appreciated, and I thank you and your families for your sacrifice.
On behalf of leadership across the Department, I want to wish you and your families a safe, healthy and restful Thanksgiving.
