The Coast Guard is reminding all active-duty members and reservists to get the flu shot as soon as possible. Getting the flu shot helps prevent the spread of the flu virus. Also, early detection of flu like symptoms is vital to ensuring our Coast Guard remains healthy, if you feel sick go to the doctor immediately. The sooner the better!
The flu virus can pose a dangerous threat to Coast Guard personnel and their families. Fifteen child deaths from the flu have been reported so far this year. The CDC recommends that children 6 months and older should get an annual flu shot. Coast Guard Child Development Center employees and children enrolled in the Coast Guard Child Development Centers are required to have the flu shot. If their child is displaying flu like symptoms, it is recommended that their child be evaluated by a health care provider before returning to the center.
