To the Men and Women of the Coast Guard,

By now, you have seen Secretary Johnson’s email regarding the possibility of a lapse in the Department of Homeland Security’s Fiscal Year 2015 appropriation. Should a lapse in appropriation occur this Friday, our military, civilian, military retirees, and annuitants will receive pay for work performed through February 27.

The Vice Commandant and our senior leaders will be issuing very specific guidance this week regarding pay, travel, contract management and operations should a lapse occur. I know these times of uncertainty are challenging on many levels, but I also know the extraordinary men and women who make up our Service and I am confident we will get through this together.

Most Sincerely,
Admiral Paul F. Zukunft
Commandant

  1. CG was still part of the Treasury Dept when I enlisted in March ’63 and later became part of the Dept of Transportation. I’ve never thought the move to DHS was to any advantage for the CG, and the political football into which that organization has evolved seems counter productive.
