Innovators, a new crowdsourcing challenge has been posted! The Innovation Council and the Coast Guard Recreational Boating Safety Program (CG-BSX) need your help. In 2014, 78% of fatal boating accident victims drowned; 84% of those were not wearing life jackets. The safety of those on the water is a foundational mission for the Coast Guard, and wearing life jackets greatly reduces the drowning hazard for boaters. Only 5% of adults on open motorboats regularly wear life jackets; what would help boaters wear them more often?
While not covered in the report, the Commandant released his 2016 reading list on January 1. Check out his recommendations, and help him pick the final book in his list!
