On behalf of the Commandant and Vice Commandant, I express our appreciation for your Service to Nation and Commitment to Excellence. In turn, we are committed to our guiding principle “Duty to People,” and deeply value your feedback to help inform our discussions, policies and priorities. Over the next few months, we will be seeking your survey input on a wide variety of organizational issues, and it is imperative that we receive your thoughtful feedback. Even though there are four different surveys coming, most of you will only see 1-3 based on how they are administered.

Coast Guard attends Road to Tokyo opening

 

To the women and men of the Coast Guard:

On behalf of the Commandant and Vice Commandant, I express our appreciation for your Service to Nation and Commitment to Excellence. In turn, we are committed to our guiding principle “Duty to People,” and deeply value your feedback to help inform our discussions, policies and priorities. Over the next few months, we will be seeking your survey input on a wide variety of organizational issues, and it is imperative that we receive your thoughtful feedback. Even though there are four different surveys coming, most of you will only see 1-3 based on how they are administered.

Please complete each applicable survey you receive knowing that your input is essential in helping us improve our Coast Guard. Our talented Leadership and Diversity Advisory Councils (LDAC’s) should lead in evaluating survey results and helping commands develop plans of action to address concerns raised in these surveys. I am committed to ensuring your voices are heard!

There are four surveys you may have seen or should soon see:

1) The Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS) commenced the first week of May (Civilians only). The survey was sent to 96,000 randomly selected DHS civilian employees and is used to measure an agency’s work environment and human resources practices. This survey closes June 17th.

2) The Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) Workplace and Gender Relations Survey of Active Duty Members (WGRA) will be released in June (Active Duty only). This survey will be sent to the entire active duty workforce to request feedback from active duty military members to assess the prevalence of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment in the Coast Guard.

3) The Career Intentions Survey (CIS) will also begin in mid-June (Active Duty only). It will survey members who are choosing to leave active duty, as well as a matched sample of members remaining on active duty. It will allow for greater clarity of the many and varied root causes for the decisions to depart, and therefore will help us work to improve our workplace and retain our valued officers and enlisted.

4) The Organization Assessment Survey (OAS) will be released this fall (Civilian and Military). This survey solicits input from all military and civilian members of the Coast Guard. It is used to measure our organizational trust and will help identify areas in need of improvement as well as current best practices and successes.

Your input is vital; please set aside a few minutes to complete these important surveys.
