The Coast Guard Force Readiness Command (FORCECOM) prides itself on being renowned for providing a world-class workforce, products, and services. Through training and leader development, readiness assessments, analysis, exercise support and tactics, techniques, and procedures, FORCECOM enables Coast Guard readiness and mission success.
FORCECOM was recently honored with four distinguished awards at the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) annual conference in Philadelphia.
ISPI, founded in 1962, represents performance improvement professionals throughout the United States, Canada, and 44 other countries. They use evidence-based performance improvement research and practices to effect sustainable and measurable results.
FORCECOM’s Performance Technology Center (PTC) provides program offices real data so they can make decisions on how to equip the workforce with tools, information, incentives, and knowledge to do their jobs better. If data shows members need training, the PTC designs electronic, interactive courses and applications to help them on the job. FORCECOM’s performance improvement efforts were distinguished by ISPI when they were presented the following awards:
1) Outstanding Human Performance Communication for the design and development of a self-paced e-learning course that familiarizes staff with general facts and concepts about Human Performance Technology.
2) Outstanding Human Performance Intervention for the Waterways Management (WWM) Performance Support System. FORCECOM partnered with the Coast Guard Office of Waterways and Ocean Policy and created a holistic approach to performance improvement target at multiple levels of the organization.
3) Outstanding Human Performance Intervention for the Advanced Helicopter Rescue School Cover Asset Analysis. The cover asset is essential to ensuring the safety of rescue swimmers and aircrews when training in heavy seas or serve weather. PTC’s analysis defined resources, information, skills and knowledge gaps.
4) Outstanding Human Performance Intervention for Storekeeper “A” School. Coast Guard storekeepers are finance, logistics and procurement specialists. At Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma they receive their performance-based curriculum that prepares them to serve in the fleet.
“As the director of PTC, I’m honored to accept ISPI Awards of Excellence for two of our most high impact projects — the analysis our team conducted on the Coast Guard’s Advanced Helicopter Rescue Course and the creation of a Human Performance Technology e-learning module,” said Cmdr. Jennifer Sinclair. “ISPI provides government, academia, and private industry people with a great forum to share ideas and learn best practices from other performance improvement professionals.”
FORCECOM also sent members from PTC as well as its eight major Coast Guard Training Centers to attend this year’s conference. Cmdr. Sinclair and Eileen Maeso presented on ‘Applying a Systematic Approach to Analysis’ at this year’s conference; Cmdr. Julie Kuck, from the PTC, and Jodi Sutton from Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown presented on implementing mobile learning devices at training centers; and Anne Niccoli from the Coast Guard Leadership Development Center presented on digital screen effects on attention, memory and behavior.
Along with members from the Department of Homeland Security, FORCECOM is honored to be a part of the International Society for Performance Improvement that supports our mission.
