With November being Coast Guard Family Month, many think about their spouses and children. But often, family also includes older family members that have become dependent on your care. Caring for an elderly relative can be a wonderful time for both of you to get closer, but it also can become demanding, stressful, unpredictable and exhausting, taking a toll on you and even causing difficulties at work. November is also National Family Caregivers Month and CG SUPRT would like to highlight the resources and services available to make caregiving easier and to support the caregivers in your family.
As part of Daily Living Services, CG SUPRT has eldercare support. This includes resources for adult day care, home care, assisted living, health insurance benefits counseling, Medicaid and Medicare information, home repairs, respite care, support groups, subsidized housing, senior centers, transportation, and much more. A consultant can assist by researching specific resources in your area and sending you a packet of information based on your needs, taking the time consuming information gathering off of your full plate. You can request your packet by calling CG SUPRT or by using the online Adult Care Assisted Search.
CG SUPRT also has free legal services which can be requested for issues like estate planning and wills and other elder law concerns. Financial consultations and money coaching are available for support on life/health insurance, taxes, retirement, debt, budgeting, and much more.
If you are transitioning into the caregiver role, a Health and Wellness Coach may be the support you need to manage the change. Coaches partner with you in a creative way to promote healthy change, establish clear action steps, and keep you motivated. Coaching is done over the phone or via web chat, making it easier to fit into your schedule. Or if you are a more experienced caregiver and are looking for emotional support, CG SUPRT Non-Medical Counseling may be the next step in taking care of yourself. The services are free and confidential and convenient for you. Counseling can be done in person or over the phone, web chat, or video counseling.
So if you are considering caregiving and want more information or you are established and would like additional assistance, reach out to CG SUPRT. We would love to help you help your family.
