Donations for Coast Guard members affected by Hurricane Harvey
This blog is not intended as a solicitation for donations. The information below is provided so those wishing to assist Coast Guard members affected by Harvey are aware of the most efficient means of doing so.
Coast Guard Mutual Assistance (CGMA):
The CGMA is especially equipped to provide assistance to Coast Guard. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, nearly $2.5 million of grants were distributed to Coast Guard members. As a result, this is the preferred method of assisting Coast Guard members in need (as opposed to gift cards or other donations).
Visit cgmahq.org –> On yellow top bar, select “Donate” drop-down menu –> Select “General” –> In middle of next page under “Donation Options” click on “If you prefer to make a secure donation online, Donate Now” –> Choose the amount and frequency of the donation –> Select Payment Information –> Choose if donation is in memory or honor of someone –> Select if you want an acknowledgement from the organization or individual you dedicated the donation (enter personal message, email or mailing address) –> Select “Donate Now” button.
DO NOT SEND PHYSICAL DONATIONS!! (Clothing, food, water, ). Other donations and supplies are not requested at this time. Once needs are determined we will provide additional guidance. Please use the other sources of giving recommended.
Gift Card donations: Due to the logistical issues associated with gift cards, they are not Gift card donations are possible but must be from Coast Guard members for Coast Guard members and must be for a specific store. They cannot be cash equivalents, such as a Visa or Mastercard gift card. Gift cards should be limited to a $20.00 maximum donation amount per card. Other charitable organizations that can assist Coast Guard personnel:
There are numerous charitable organizations to which our employees can make voluntary donations. The following list is non- exclusive, but reflects some of the organizations that are assisting relief efforts in the area. This information is provided for informational purposes and not as solicitation for donations. Commands must make clear that there is no obligation to contribute to any of the listed organizations.
Coast Guard Foundation: Visit coastguardfoundation.org –> In the top far right, select the “Give” tab –> Select “Donate Now” –> Choose the amount and frequency of the donation –> Choose if donation is in memory or honor of someone –> Enter personal billing information –> Click red “Donate Now” button.
Visit redcross.org/donate/donation –> Choose the amount of donation under “I Want to Give” –> Select Hurricane Harvey (bottom choice) under “I Want to Support” –> Select “One Time” under “Frequency” –> Select Payment Details –> Fill out billing information and select “Donate $” button.

Text: Send the word “HARVEY” to 90999 to make a $10.00 donation.
Visit disaster.salvationarmyusa.org –>Select “Give” tab in black bar on top of the page –> Select green “Donate Online” button –> Select gift amount –> Select gift type (One Time or Monthly) –> Enter billing and contact information –> Select “Submit Donation”.

Resources for Coast Guard members and families affected by Hurricane Harvey
For all Coast Guard members stationed at units affected by Hurricane Harvey or deployed to the Gulf Coast in response to Hurricane Harvey, we hope to provide guidance for you and your family.
