Captain Thomas J. Walcott, Chaplain Corps, USN, has been named the next Chaplain of the Coast Guard. He will relieve Captain Gregory N. Todd, Chaplain Corps, USN, and report aboard in April, 2018.
Nomination packages for the 2017 Coast Guard Education Services Officerof the Year (ESOY) and the 2017 Inspirational Student of the Year (ISOY) are now being accepted through 31JAN18. Detailed information regarding award nomination package requirements can be found on the Education and Training Quota Management Command (ETQC) website.
The Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard is soliciting nominations for the 2017 Enlisted Person of the Year – Active Duty Component and 2017 Enlisted Person of the Year – Reserve Component. This program is designed to recognize enlisted persons of the year from the active-duty and reserve enlisted workforce, selected from those serving in pay grades E-2 through E-6. Nominees should reflect a spirit of pride, professionalism and dedication, and must embody our Coast Guard Core Values. The performance for each award nomination must have occurred during Calendar Year 2017.
Coast Guard military members assigned to cutters that were constructed prior to 1991 may have been exposed to very low levels of asbestos and lead. A full listing of these cutters is provided in Ref (B). The levels of exposure were well below the MSAL for asbestos and lead, so enrollment in OMSEP was not required. However, medical documentation of these potential exposures may facilitate the processing of possible future Veterans Administration disability claims.
This announces the promulgation of the REF (A), Meritorious Advancement Program (MAP), COMDTINST 1430.2, which is newly established policy to meritoriously advance active duty and reserve enlisted personnel. COMDT (CG-1), has special authority to make advancements to certain pay grades without participation in the servicewide examination (SWE) competition, per Reference (b) Article 3.A.3.i. Currently, meritorious advancements are awarded to Enlisted Person of the Year (EPOY) recipients and Douglas A. Munro award winners. To increase opportunities to recognize top performers, COMDT (CG-1) is specifically delegating limited meritorious advancement authority to complement established advancement processes. MAP is designed to allow senior leaders the opportunity to recognize and advance active duty and reserve enlisted members who show exceptional adherence to the core values of “Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty.” Only those who demonstrate sustained exceptional proficiency and conduct, and possess the potential to advance into a position of greater responsibility, should be considered for meritorious advancement.
Reference (a) announced the release of the new standards and major changes to the Enlisted Evaluation System (EES), which will go into effect 01MAR2018. This message announces the availability of outreach opportunities to support field units as they implement the new EES.
