The Coast Guard Research and Development Center (RDC) narrowed the field in the U.S. Coast Guard Ready for Rescue Challenge with a Piranha Pool pitch event. The competition seeks enhancements for personal flotation devices that will help make it easier for Coast Guard rescue personnel to find people in the water who are in need of aid.
As the armory supervisor at the Coast Guard Academy and a competitive shooter, Petty Officer 1st Class Charlie Petrotto has been able to follow his passion for competitive shooting by working with the cadets on the shooting teams and hone his own skills as a marksman. Petrotto’s personal commitment, marksmanship and experience has brought in a fresh perspective to competitive shooting at the Academy.
Coast Guard Academy cadets competed at the annual Sandhurst Military Skills Competition in April. The Sandhurst competition is a two-day event, which tests a teams overall military skills. The Academy cadets beat 29 out of 38 West Point teams and the U.S. Naval Academy at the competition, along with the Korean, Japanese, Colombian and Thailand teams.
