From the Homefront: 2018 Military Child of the Year Award submissions

Moving to new towns, always being the new kid, waiting at home for a deployed parent. Then finding time to excel in schoolwork, enjoying sports and the arts, and giving back to their communities. Coast Guard kids can not only thrive among the obstacles, but they can excel. Operation Homefront is looking for nominations of exceptional Coast Guard kids to be considered for the 2018 Military Child of the Year Award.

A word often-used to describe military kids is resilience. One Coast Guard kid has brought new meaning to the word, and even received a national award in recognition for her enduring spirit in the face of adversity. Mary Kate Cooper, 17, is that kid, well, teen! Read the full blog to hear about her story. Congratulations to Mary on her selection as not only Operation Homefront’s Coast Guard Military Child of the Year, but the overall winner out of all five military service branches! Submit your nominations for 2017 Military Child of the Year

Operation Homefront is now accepting nominations for the 2017 Military Child of the Year. A Coast Guard kid (8 to 18 years old) will be selected to represent the service! The recipient will receive a national award to include cash, a laptop, and a trip to Washington, D.C. Parents can nominate their children, teachers can nominate students – just about anyone can nominate on the program’s website. Submit a nomination for your deserving military child!

From the Homefront: 2016 Coast Guard military child of the year

Some important numbers in 17-year-old Keegan Fike’s life as a Coast Guard kid: 125 months of his dad’s deployments and six moves. However, those numbers have not stopped him from thriving in all of the towns in which he has lived and finding ways to give back to the communities that have helped him belong. Operation Homefront named Keegan Fike the Coast Guard military child of the year.

Military Child of the Year Award 2016 nominations now open

Often times military families are separated for long periods of time leaving many children to take on extra responsibilities in the household. Military children are resilient, strong people facing challenges of military life while demonstrating leadership within their families and their communities. So, take some time out of your busy schedule to recognize a deserving military child!
