Active shooter training conducted at Training Center Petaluma

Thirty-two participants representing 12 different local, state, and federal agencies including active duty and Reserve Coast Guard members trained together at Training Center Petaluma in late October to hands-on field training and scenario-based practical exercises on active shooter incidents. Active shooter situations are all too common in American society today and this training is meant to help those first responders stay prepared and ready.

Running for Women’s Equality

August 26 marks the 95th Anniversary of the Woman’s Suffrage Movement, a day which memorializes the fight for equal rights and celebrates the passage of the 19th Amendment on August 20, 1920. Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma held a Woman’s Equality Day Race to celebrate this pivotal day in history and honor the pioneers who fought for women’s equality.

As Coast Guardsmen, we are trained and are always prepared to respond to emergency situations, but it’s rare that we’re called into action to fight what is being described as one of the worst wildland fires in the last 15 years. That is just what Fire Capt. Chad Davis, firefighter James Jeffers and Chief Petty Officer Nathan Mahoney did from July 29-August 5, as they, along with thousands of other firefighters, battled the Rocky Fire in Northern California.

Each year, Earth Day is celebrated worldwide to serve as a reminder to commit to environmental protection initiatives. The theme for Earth Day 2015 is “Our time to lead.” Training Center Petaluma, under the Petaluma Green program, continuously strives to be a Coast Guard leader in energy conservation and environmentally sustainable practices.
